The Wasp Spider is a creature known for its nasty sting. It is closely related to the Alert Spider and Spike Spider, and more distantly related to the Blade Scorpion. Despite being called "spiders" they have much more in common with insects, including possessing three segments (head, thorax, and tail in this regard) and six legs. Their head notably somewhat resembles a human skull. Although their naming may seem confusing, it originates from their poison-tipped forelegs, likened to a wasp's stinger.
One of the slower members of the spider family, the tips of their claws hold a powerful sting. It poses a threat with its sharp front claws, which scythe through the air... and prey. The Wasp Spider prefers the cool breezes found in coastal regions, including but likely not limited to Abydos.
The creature is first encountered by Sphinx in Abydos where a quintet of them block entry to the Council Chambers, within which the deathly ill Mayor of Abydos resides in a stupor and which the villainous Set is trying to prevent Sphinx from entering, hoping to soon acquire the Crown of Abydos, which Sphinx has been sent for by Anubis.
Using a Capture Beetle, Sphinx captures on of these creatures and takes it to the Abydosian Museum, where he donates it to the curator who then places it on display with numerous other monsters of the deserts.
