Vulcanodon was a small sauropod from early jurassic Zimbabwe. Vulcanodon is considered one of the most primitive sauropods. Vulcanodon had the typical sauropod body plan with coulum like legs and a long tail and neck. Vulcanodon used to be known as the earliest sauropod, until the discovery of the late triassic Isanosaurus. Vulcanodons skeleton was discovered in volcanic rock in the Vulcanodon beds, and is the only dinosaur in there to be named. Under the volcanic rock is wind blown sands, suggesting Vulcanodon lived in a desert like enviroment.
