The vindicated baphomet (Induseusus bogen) are a species of true lookovers indigenous to the planet Aberskyvinda-Unbu (now known as Kobastl τ), first discovered by the Loranche explorer Somarinoa in 3417. They are usually found solitary due to their size making it easier to feed if alone. They subsist on oxide elements found in the vegetation. Their enormous size allows for adults to avoid predation most of the time.

Background history[]

Size comparison between a Vindicated Baphomet and a Human.

Somarinoa landed on the torrid planet Aberskyvinda-Unbu on September 2, 3417 on his journey across the Toseike System. He had already recruited the Dauenolasters from the planet Dauenolaste, retroactively considered to be the very beginnings of the Orfen Fleet. Somarinoa had several of their species residing in his cargo hold, and one unnamed individual touched foot on this new planet alongside the Loranche explorer as a sign of good faith. During this time the pair would first encounter and name the vindicated baphomet.

Somarinoa and the Dauenolasters entered cryosleep the same day, but did not awaken for the rest of the year. The Korvax initiated a Sculptor on New Years 3418, leading to the devastating Fornaxian-Senium Extinction Event that eradicated most of the macroscopic life on the planet (calculations indicate that roughly 71.42% of vegetation and 90% of the wildlife went extinct) as the world was converted into an acidic, rotting one. Luckily, Somarinoa's ship sent out a distress beacon and it was picked up by a Korvax rescue mission before it sank into the growing swamplands before being taken to Toseike Station. Although the vindicated baphomets were nearly driven to extinction, Korvax geneticist intervention allowed a number of collected individuals to be forcibly adapted into a new species, the eoherdus, by hybridizing it back with its genetic ancestors, the glancers. Those in the wild were left to fend for themselves and despite an assumption that they went extinct, sporadic reports continue to come in stating that they are sighted by travelers just on the horizon. No confirmations have yet concluded that they have survived but the Explorers Guild have held off on officially listing them as extinct until definitive proof can be given one way or the other. At this point, the vindicated baphomet has entered into local cryptid legends.

Trivia[]

  • Although lore-wise the vindicated baphomet is rumored to still be alive, they in fact are officially extinct in-game, wiped out of existence during No Man's Sky first galactic reset during the Next update. They are simply kept alive "in memory" because the player had enjoyed them at the time of their discovery.
