Utility worms are a species of biomechanical devices that were created for ease of survival on a collapsing planet. Their basic bodily plan is that of a nanotechne-armored worm with tentacular appendages surrounding their single eye. Some types of utility worm are embedded with plastiglass vats for their specific purpose. All utility worms have no cognitive functions beyond their assigned purpose.
Specialized functions of a utility worm:
- Vat grown meat
- Algae
- Artificial milk
- Latex
- Polymer textiles
- Bulbs of rubber
- Vermin extermination
- Applying advanced medicine.
- Creation of new utility worms from the nanomachines of others.
It is obvious that many modern comforts would be impossible in The Long Night if it weren't for the utility worms.
