Tofu is a nano-mechanical organism created by the New Dawn corporation. Its original purpose was to be a final cure for mutavus, before receiving funding to be repurposed as a living weapon. The project was halted again as the test subject escaped from the lab, and was resumed when footage showed that the rogue subject had enough intelligence to become an organized criminal instead of a dangerous animal.
Biology[]
Tofu is a series of nanomachines that living cells, and potentially other organisms. A secondary level of mimicry is enabled by copying a mutated organism that mimics any other cell. This gives them the potential to shapeshift into any non-supernatural being.
As a security measure these nanomachines are designed to self-destruct upon separation from the core, preventing it from truly reproducing.
The core is a nanotech pearl that's activated by implantation inside sufficient biomass, which it uses as the base material to create a body from.
While its software is hosted on a core, all individual tofu organisms quickly discovered that they can outsource their software to artificial neurons for increasing acessible memory or circumventing programmed limits. This may be a necessary step to developing human-level intelligence. The tofu core is aware of its cellar workings, and the workings of what it consumes. This allows it to copy whatever biological traits it finds useful, from either natural animals or abherrant creations of mutavus.
Individuals[]
- Tofu: The first test subject, currently employed by the supervillain Hellion. His escape was enabled when something uploaded "human.exe" to grant him humanoid intelligence. Disguised as a young man. Known to his friends as socially insensitive and naive, but extremely intelligent. Chose his name/codename to refer to what his "favorite thing" was at the time of joining Hellion's gang (the tofu burgers that someone generously paid for).
- Mark Two: A new "tofu" that takes on the form of a carcinoid. It grew an extremely stunted humanoid brain as an attempt to copy the internal workings of human.exe. Still in the custody of New Dawn.
