The Snow Wasset (Mustelinopsis subitivorax) is a fictional mustelid originating from North American lumberjack mythology.
Biology[]
The Snow Wasset is a large beast, four times larger than a wolverine and forty times more active. Its habits are migratory, but unlike other animals, it spends most of the summertime hibernating and is far more active at winter, as it revels in cold temperatures and avoids the heat at all costs. It spends the summer in Newfoundland and Labrador, and migrates southwards in the winter, to the snowy forests around the Great Lakes.
At summer, it grows short legs, which are used to move away from the sun and seek out shady spots where it can sleep, curled up like a green ring. When the winter comes and it's time to migrate, it sheds its legs away and becomes a burrowing serpentine predator, constantly seeking out prey to satiate its appetite. It preys on any animal it can catch, from rabbits to wolves and anything in between.
