Reeks are large, thick-skinned bovids indigenous to Ylesia. Although very much territorial, they were domesticated and used as a form of cattle on ranches on worlds including but not limited to the Codian Moon, Saleucami, and Tatooine. Domestication led to a variety of subspecies adapting on some worlds after significant time, giving rise to at least three known subspecies found on Kashyyyk, Iridonia, and Ithor, respectively.
Some time after the Battle of Yavin IV, a number of Tatooinian Reeks were infected by the Rakghoul plague.
Physiology[]
Reeks are hump-backed ungulate grazers with two toes on each foot. They stood at a height of 7.34 feet (2.24 meters) and could grow to 13.25 feet (4.04 meters) long. They weighed upwards of 2,425.06 lbs (1,100 kilograms). Although they are mammalianoid, their bodies have a more squat stance more similar to early reptiles and mammals.
Reeks of all subspecies were brown in hue, though their skintone changed depending upon their diet, similar to a flamingo. Although Reeks were naturally herbivorous, they could consume meat just like any herbivorous creature such as cows. Doing so however could not sustain the animal, and so those who chose to feed it meat still would need to provide them with sufficient plant matter as well to keep them healthy. Reeks fed on a carnivorous diet would change physically, with their leathery skin turning dark red and their aggressive tendencies ramping up drastically. Some more nefarious individuals, including the Geonosians, would purposefully do this to use the Reeks for either exhibition sports or executions.

Arguably the rarest subspecies is the Ryyk, which is the Wookiee pronunciation of the word "Reek". As one might expect, they are found on Kashyyyk, where their numbers are small as only a few can survive the planet's seriously different climes and the numerous predators. Ryyks have adapted much larger bodies, presumably to survive against the predators, while their horns have grown to be longer and more narrow but also stronger. They appear to be evolving towards becoming venomous, as a few mutated members have been recorded as secreting such toxic liquids from the tips of their horns.
