Predacons are a ancient primal and prehistoric species of Cybertronian fauna and dragons, originating from the planet Cybertron.
The adjective for "of or pertaining to the Predacons" is Predaconial, though it is extremely common to simply substitute 'Predacon'.
Background History[]
Original species[]
The original Predacons once ruled over the planet Cybertron under both the original Predaking and Dragotron, only to become extinct at the beginning of Cybertronian history during an event known as the Great Cataclysm, an apocalyptic extinction event.
Left extinct for eons, the Decepticon Scientist Shockwave eventually discovered a way to clone their species from preserved CNA samples during the period where the Ark and Nemesis left Cybertron. His experiments even extended to the splicing of CNA samples into normal Cybertronians, leading to hybrids such as Ser-Ket. A small army of these new Predacon clones were then sent to Earth alongside Megatron in their attempt to create energon. Although all of the Autobots were slain in the crash of the Ark, the Predacons continued to stand a long vigil as they awaited Megatron to arrive, not realizing that he, too, had perished in the Ark crash. In the end they ultimately perished themselves in their extended wait, leaving their fossilized bodies to become buried in various locations around the world.
During the passing years, these fossils came to enter human legends as various mythological monsters, although their true natures remained a mystery to the Earthlings until they were eventually forgotten.

The original five Predacon clones were built as a collaboration between the Decepticons and their Quintesson masters. These original Predacons—Divebomb, Headstrong, Rampage, Razorclaw, and Tantrum; were capable of combining into the great combiner, Predaking. Under the command of the Quintessons, they were considered to be some of the most fearsome and vicious warriors in the entire galaxy (being touted as some of the few Decepticons capable of going toe-to-toe with the Dinobots), they rarely succeeded in making much headway in battle, even against small groups of Autobots.
It seemed that the Predacons were only barely aligned with their species' creators as they soon disbanded, seemingly permanently, from them in order to serve Galvatron. In truth, they are servants only to the hunt itself. When they were later summoned to Earth by the again-reformatted Megatron, they were convinced to betray Megatron again by Shockwave.
Eventually, the Autobots and their Human allies turned the tide of the Great War (also known as the Third Cybertronian War) and along with the other Decepticons, these Predacons were ultimately either destroyed or left with other surviving Decepticons living under heavy restrictions.
Apparently, the new breed of Predacons had already evolved; although reports of this origin were nebulous, the facts are listed as follows: The leader of the original Predacons, Razorclaw, founded a new group of Predacons after the Decepticon's defeat in the Great War starting in the 1990s, but before the signing of the Pax Cybertronia. Following the new ideals and way of life to "prosper or perish", with Razorclaw swearing they would drive the Maximals into extinction, he took the fight to Cybertron and is believed to have won were it not for the Tripredacus Council stealing control from themselves.
2010 AD[]

Several of the fossilized Predacons on Earth would be dug up millions of years later so that he could extract their cybernucleic acid to clone them. Despite setbacks, one new Predacon clone was created yet, despite being formidable was found to be susceptible to the cold of the Arctic. Now with the clone destroyed the original Predacon reawakened and proved itself to be both aggressive and very efficient at locating other Predacon fossils.
With Shockwave's next batch of clones nearing fruition in their processing, this ancient Predacon had developed intellect and discovered its ability to convert. He then nominated himself as the leader of all future Predacons and renamed himself Predaking in the process, affirming his loyalty to Megatron. Past history with their kind left the Decepticons suspicious and untrusting, leaving them to arrange for their mortal enemies, the Autobots, to find and destroy the cloning facility. Although the action was believed to strengthen the Predacons' loyalty to their relatives, this action led to the destruction of all of the new Predacons, leaving Predaking enraged. Predaking continued to believe his clones would be recreated and remained loyal to Megatron until Ratchet revealed Megatron's betrayal. Predaking confronted him but was sucked out of an airlock to later land on the renewed Cybertron.
It was here that Shockwave created three more Predacon clones, with two being brought online before the third to help search for other Predacon fossils. They were revealed to the Autobots early and the Autobots later sought out Predaking to try and initiate an alliance. This was turned down thanks to the Autobots' hand in the destruction of his people. Despite this, he would soon come across the new Predacon clones thanks to Autobot intel. To have them come to him he fired a flaming beacon but instead brought the Unicron-possessed Megatron to him. Unfortunately, Unicron won the battle and entered Predaking's mind.
The newly-possessed Unicron would come to then raise an army of "undead" Predacons at the same time as the clones finally stumbled upon the location.

Twenty million years later, this new group of Predacons reemerged, believed to be direct descendants of the original five villains. By order of the Pax Cybertronia, they exist as something of an underclass, appearing to be equals, but firmly under the Maximals in the social order. This has led many Predacons to hold bitter grudges against the Maximals. Predacons tend to take reptilian or arthropod beast modes, although this is not a hard-and-fast rule.
