Azerothian Orcas, also known as Azerothian Killer Whales (Orcinus azotha) are relatively small cetaceans indigenous to the planet Azeroth, where they appear in the Howling Fjord of Northrend and the Kelp'thar Forest in Vashj'ir. Roughly 30ft long, they are vicious predators and unlike the Orcas of Earth they will attack virtually anything they detect. Naturally however they feed upon fish, squids, pinnipeds, and other whales.
They can sometimes be summoned by Druids, who can also transform into a physical manifestation of an Orca for their aquatic form through the usage of a Glyph of the Orca.
They may not be as social animals as typical orcas. They are closely related to the Glimmer Bay and Shadowprey Orcas found in Glimmer Bay of Northrend and Desolace of Kalimdor, respectively.
Distribution[]
The Azerothian Orcas are found in both arctic and tropical waters, and may in fact be migratory like other cetacean species. They are primarily common around the icy continent of Northrend, where they are found around the Howling Fjord: specifically they are known to appear around Daggercap Bay, Garvan's Reef, and the Isle of Spears. They avoid the Glimmer Bay, which is instead inhabited by the closely related Glimmer Bay Orcas.
Those found around the Kelp'tar Forest of Vashj'ir have become frenzied in recent years, but can be found mostly around Gorrok's Lament, but also as far north as Smuggler's Scar and as far south as Gnaws' Boneyard.
Another subspecies, the Shadowprey Orca, spend their lives along the western continent of Kalimdor off of Desolace, especially around the Sar'theris Strand and Shadowprey Village where they feed upon local Jungle Trolls.
