Mermaids are a species that appear to be half-human, half-fish found off the coasts of Lodwar, Axeoth, if not off the coasts of all of Axeoth. They are capable of temporarily hypnotizing and charming their foes, somehow causing them to fight for the Mermaids' side for but a moment. Likely as an extension to this ability, they are entirely immune to both Charm effects and Diplomatic skill. A skilled hero knows to attack aggressive mermaids with spells or ranged weaponry to prevent their hypnotizing the hero's soldiers.
They are considered some of the most common aquatic creatures known on Axeoth, being far more numerous though albeit far weaker than the local sea monsters. Although they have been associated with the strongholds of the world, they are not known to be naturally recruitable in any of such settlements, perhaps an indication that their alignment is only blossoming.

- The mermaid is a second-level creature, connected to the Stronghold in Heroes of Might and Magic IV. She cannot be acquired in-game, only added in the Scenario Editor.
