"Ahhh! The Rail! Sssymbol of Precursssor heritage! Now none can deny the Lk as full inheritors of the Precursssorsss!" |
The Lk (pronounced simply as \ lk \, making it sound like "ulk") (Lk idiotelis) are a species of sapient fungi hailing from the planet Azazel in the Kessari Quadrant.
Background history[]
Evolved from saprotrophic spores that had grown on the rotting food stores of the ancient Precursors, the Lk have gained a delusion of grandeur. They came to believe that, if the long-missing Precursors had in fact perished, then the Lk ancestors likely fed unwittingly on their corpses. This when combined with having evolved inside a Precursor base and thereby immediately possessing large quantities of their artifacts, has led them to believe that they are the true heirs to the Precursor legacy and like many other sapient starfaring races, seek to control all known artifacts of the race.
Their cultural philosophy has become one of selfishness: They will only help others if it suits their own needs and only up until the point that they receive whatever it is that they desired or required. In the late 2100s, they attacked the first Humans they came into contact with aboard their retrofitted Precursor colony ship when they lied to its captain about believing him to be a member of the local thugs, the Hegemonic Crux. By performing this sacrifice they were able to manipulate the Human ship to attack the Daktaklakpak with hopes of obtaining the red spiral rail for them, a precious Precursor artifact that they had their eyes on.
Most likely due to a long-term trading with the Melnorme, the Lk know much about Human history by the 2100s despite having never made contact with them up until that point. To this same matter they also know of the genetic relationship between the VUX and the Vyro-Ingo.
Culture[]
Language[]
They speak in a manner of hissed S's and rolled R's.
Technology[]
Starship[]
The Lk fly through space using a starship they refer to as the Sanctorum. This is a relatively simple vessel, with its only real benefit being that it is virtually impossible for an opponent to engage a Sanctorum without incurring some level of damage to their own vessel. These starships are equipped with rocket batteries that can fire at a rapid pace. Being rockets, these are non-homing and are propelled forward on a semi-linear course. The vessels are also capable of utilizing a phase shift which makes their ship not only intangible to the outside observer but also provides them with an energy shield.
When being considered strategically in combat situations, a captain should note that they have a restricted range in which they can maintain an effective attack while still having enough time to maneuver away from or shift through enemy barrages. However, rapid fire weaponry against them at close range may effectively nullify any and all of the Sanctorum's advantages.
