The Guardians were a species of bipedal, draconic creatures created by Myria, the Goddess of Destruction, for the sole purpose of eradicating the Brood.
Guardians are a muscular race, with large, leathery, but otherwise seemingly worthless wings curving over their backs. They have a sharp beak in place of a mouth, and often are seen wearing hand wraps and similar clothing to one another. Their pair of horns are highly variable, and all known individuals have significantly different curvatures to them; they are known to be either red or blue, and may occur in other color variations, as well. The only two known Guardians were both of differing brown hues, indicating that they likely all fluctuate within the brown spectrum.
In combat, Guardians have displayed the uncanny ability to shapeshift into large monsters. Gaist transformed into a huge demon when fought for the ability to awaken Deis, and it is possible that the Dragon Zombie was another Guardian, perhaps trying to incite Ryu to attack Garr to force Garr to fight back and kill Ryu.
Background History[]
The Guardians were created by Myria to fight against the Brood, leading to the Great War. After some time, the Dragon population appeared to dwindle and cease, causing the Guardians to accept that they had successfully wiped out all of dragonkind. However in truth, the Dragons had simply went into hiding, as they were afraid that if they didn't let the Guardians win they would be forced to unleash their real strength, with potentially devastating results.
With the war ended, Myria allowed the Guardians to visit Angel Tower when they felt that their duty was complete, to communicate with her and enter into an eternal sleep for their loyal service. This converted them into seemingly lifeless statues. Of all of the Guardians, Gaist and Garr were the last to not undergo the process.
However, should Myria herself perish, all remaining Guardians would immediately turn to stone. Since she was now deceased and they could presumably never be woken up otherwise, they are now considered extinct along with their goddess.
