Gold Nugcats (Apastelgato gorudonyan) are a species of golden-hued potato cats indigenous to the Trodain Region, which is believed to be within the confines of Torland. They live in some sort of symbiosis with Terror Tabbies, a closely related species.
Etymology[]
The generic name, "apastelgato" comes from a combination of the Spanish word "apastelado", meaning "potato" and "gato", meaning "cat". The specific name comes from the Japanese transliteration of "gold nyan (cat)", "gÅrudonyan".
Their common name is a portmanteau, being a play on the words "gold nugget" and "cat".
Physiology[]
Gold Nugcats are very large felines, and like other known potato cats, they have notably goofy expressions parted by a long, lolling tongue that often trails behind them. They almost never close their mouths.
Their fur is unique among potato cats as it is bright golden in coloration, enough to glint the sun off of it and blind those that view it. This is likely used both in defense and offensive tactics to make prey easier to catch and at the same time make it harder for their own predators to attack them. Their fur may be fluffy like their relatives despite their appearance but no data has been recorded so far. Kittens are likely born with a single stripe and gain a new stripe every year in a manner similar to the rings of a tree, as this is how the stripes are gained in other members of the genus. However these stripes are less pronounced than in other species and may not serve this species in individual identification like it may in their relatives; in this species, the stripes seem more than likely to be vestigial.
Behavior[]
Gold Nugcats are rare and little study has been done upon them. However what is known is that they form some level of symbiosis with Terror Tabbies in the region, to the point of even coming to their defense. What kind of symbiosis is not well understood, but it is known that if an adventurer were to seek out a Gold Nugcat, their best option is to start attacking nearby Terror Tabbies as one will eventually emerge in their defense.
They will sometimes preen themselves but are more likely to attack in some manner. They are magical beasts and are capable of putting an opponent to sleep or hitting them with a magical ice attack.
They can sometimes be found in the presence of seeds of agility and it can be assumed that they eat these, possibly to increase their own agility. They may also collect shiny objects like crows as they are often found in possession of golden rings.
