Bewear are a species of ailurids related to Red Pandas, indigenous to the Alola Region of the Pokémon World. They are considered to be Normal/Fighting Types.

Lifecycle[]

Stufful[]

Stufful

A juvenile Bewear, known as a Stufful.

Immediately upon being born, Bewear begin life as a species known as "Stufful". Far smaller in size (0.5m long instead of 2.1m tall, and 6.8kg instead of 135kg), they are very popular among Alola women and children, being listed at the top of people's lists of Pokémon people most want to meet. This is unfortunate for the Stufful however, as they actually hate being touched at this juvenile stage and will kick and struggle in an attempt to resist and break free. Despite their small size they are considered very powerful, though they do not gain real herculean strength until they reach their matured stage. They like to eat grass.

Bewear[]

Once a young Stufful has grown strong enough it will become a mature individual, where it becomes formally known as a Bewear. Still considered to be Normal/Fighting Types, they could easily be mistaken for large bears were it not for their raccoon-like tails. Although they may act in a friendly manner, they are klutzy and strong, aptly have 'beware' as one of their root words, and thus are acknowledged as dangerous Pokémon even when just swinging their arms around, both within the Alola Region and beyond. Travels are asked to heed warning signs that have been posted in their territories for their own safety, and they are advised to never approach one carelessly, even if one is a Pokémon Trainer.

Kiteruguma

The first evidence of a Bewear, as seen in the August issue of Corocoro Magazine in July 2016.

Caught Bewears have been known to exhibit abilities such as Fluffy or Klutz, and are known to utilize Hammer Arm in combat. However, trainers are asked to be cautious around them, as when a Bewear has grown fond of its trainer it will oftentimes attempt to show these feelings of fondness through an embrace - a somewhat literal "bear hug" (despite them not actually being bears.) The force of this hug is tremendous, and their trainers are hard-pressed to teach these Pokémon how to restrain their own strength while showing their affection, lest they accidentally injure their loved ones.
