The Electric Eel is a normally harmless fish indigenous to the shallow seas around Egypt. However, when entering areas they are not from they can become extremely dangerous pests.

The Electric Eel is quite a docile animal in its natural habitat. However, due to the electric field it creates, any water in which it swims becomes electrified and very dangerous to unsuspecting animals.

Upon Sphinx's arrival in Abydos, a female Abydosian informs him how Electric Eels have somehow come to infest the surrounding waters, causing them to become dangerous, to the point that nobody can even dip their toes in the water without being electrocuted. Eventually however the Abydosian government was able to eradicate the Electric Eel threat on their own, without Sphinx's assistance.

Although Capture Beetles are unable to survive in water—especially electrified water—and therefore are impossible to capture by this conventional method, even for the resourceful Sphinx, he is relieved to see that the Abydosian Museum already has one on display upon his arrival.
