Status Extinct (presumed — have not been recorded for millennia)

"This mysterious monster's natural habitat includes poisonous swamps and other dangerous environments. It spits evil curses that it stores up in its body. Cowardly by nature, it sits with its eyes just above the surface in order to detect any danger and flee if necessary."
— Fi

Cursed Spumes are a species of medium-sized salamander that was encountered by Skyloftians before the founding of Hyrule, and likely a subspecies of the related Magma Spume. While their entire range is not known, they were known to have infested the volcano summit as well as the Fire Sanctuary of Eldin Volcano by the Era of the Sky. However they have not been recorded since this time, and may have been driven to extinction. Deku Toads, seen millennia later, are physically similar to the Spumes and may in fact be descended from them, or at the very least the two are closely related.

Like Magma Spumes, Cursed Spumes are extremophiles, and have adapted to spend their lives in dangerous environments, including poisonous swamps as well as lava flows. They are both territorial and shy, diving under their liquid environment should an opponent get too close. Through unknown means it stores curses that it builds up in its own body — the exact nature of how these work is not well understood. Adventurers can defend themselves from Cursed Spumes with bombs, bows, slingshots, and whips, although the wielder of the Goddess Sword could also take them out with Skyward Strikes.
