"Chub toad, chub toad |
A Chub Toad is a species of large, carnivorous toad indigenous to Dominaria, known for consuming humans. Its name seems to mean "Fat Toad", which would seem to ring true for the species as they are known to be quite rotund and pudgy. Surprisingly for a species of frog or toad, Chub Toads possess a number of sharp quills on their back that seem to be used to protect them against some form of predator, although what this predator may be is unknown. They are swift creatures with small eyes and tympanic membranes in comparison to the rest of their body, yet are equipped with a seemingly gargantuan mouth, capable of swallowing a human whole.
One notable capability of the Chub Toad is that if blocked by another creature, they will apparently gain a large increase in both strength and toughness, rising from a Class 1 to a Class 3. How this is achieved is not recorded, but may be due to the toad increasing its mass by inflating, similar to some other species of toad. Should the toad be taken by surprise such as with a spell or some other mean, however, it can be easily dispatched.
