Other information

The Chaurus is a species of mantis native to swamps and underground regions in the province of Skyrim. They have been domesticated by the Falmer and often live in areas that Falmer are found. They have very strong toxins that they can spit or transfer by bites. Chaurus never stop growing, so deep underground in certain safer areas, chaurus grow to be unusually large. These larger chaurus "reapers" are faster but not very agile. The Chaurus makes a unique clacking sound to communicate.

Chaurus have several stages of growth: chaurus will hatch from an egg and begin growing. Then, after a time, the chaurus will begin to slow into a coma; they will then cover themselves with a thick resin to create a chrysalis. From there, the chaurus transforms into its adult form. In rare cases, the chaurus will fail to do so and become stuck in a larval body.

Chaurus chitin is used to make Falmer weapons, structures, and armor. The Falmer are known to feed their chaurus human corpses. Often in areas inhabited by Falmer one can find a totem made in the form of a Chaurus, suggesting the Falmer have a religious reverence for them.
