Centipedes (Dracopede gyaruzupanikku) are a species of large, fire-breathing centipedes.

Physiology[]

These are large centipedes with black inflexible exocuticle and a red flexible endocuticle. They have human-like eyes, giving them strong vision. At birth larvae consist of a single segment that is possible made of two merged segments similar to a harvestmen; this can be presumed from their having four legs at this stage. The rest of their growth cycle is not documented, but upon reaching maturity they have exactly 10 trunk segments.

Each segment except for the head in adults bear legs, giving them 20 normal yet significantly short legs and two rear legs that act almost like a tail. They have a pair of short, almost blade-like antennae flanking their mandibles. Leg-to-body connections are gold, while their legs are white.

An interesting trait of these centipedes is their ability to breathe fire. Although the exact method of how this works is not studied, taking other centipede physiology into consideration may help in this regard: The Family Craterostgmomorpha use sternal pores to produce sticky or noxious secretions to repel predators and parasites. These dragon centipedes may do something similar to produce a flammable chemical reaction to allow for a sort of fire breath. This is known to be used by certain species of dragons.

Their dietary habits are not recorded but are they assumed to be carnivorous like other centipedes.

Adults only give birth to three larvae which accompany their parent and help against their prey.
