Cawthon's false mime (or Paramimus cawthonii) is a species of humanoid cephalopods found in the FNAF universe. Although they are not officially recognized as a separate species within the games, there is evidence to suggest they are.
Physical Appearance[]
This species is similar in body plan to hominids, but is abnormally tall and lithe, retaining no muscle or body mass. They have smooth, black skin that, due to their nocturnal sleep schedule, helps them blend into the darkness. Their ghostly white faces, on the other hand, are used to both startle potential victims and to identify other individuals. These "masks" as some call them often have black markings that resemble things familiar to humans, like makeup, or tears. These are not part of the facial structure, these are painted on. They also have various striped arms akin to that of an octopus that they can summon on demand, leading to theories that they could be non-euclidean or extra-dimensional in nature.
Behavior[]
When Paramimus cawthonii hunt, they stalk their prey throughout their home, making sure to avoid places where they can easily be seen. They appear to dislike light (especially flashlights), which makes sense when you remember they're nocturnal. They also seem to enjoy taunting their victims.
Culture/Mythology[]
The culture of Cawthon's false mime is mostly unknown, but people around the Hurricane area liken them to the shinigamis of Japanese mythology, having the duty of taking people to the afterlife. This is somewhat depicted in FNAF 4 with Nightmarionne (the only known specimen of this species) taking on a Grim Reaper-like role, often theorized to be the embodiment of death.
Trivia[]
- This species may be distantly related to the Illithids (or mind flayers) from Dungeons & Dragons, due to both species' resemblance to more humanoid octopodes and their shared ability to use psychological damage against others.
