The Odonates (Order Odonata) are carnivorous insects that include dragonflies and damselflies. They can also be collectively referred to as Dragonflies by the uninitiated, and Warriorfly has also been proposed.
They tend to have large rounded heads covered mostly by well-developed, compound eyes, legs that facilitate catching prey in flight, two pairs of long, transparent wings that move independently, and elongated abdomens. Their larvae are called nymphs and have stockier, shorter, bodies than the adults. In addition to lacking wings, their eyes are smaller, their antennae longer, and their heads are less mobile than in the adult. Their mouthparts are modified, with it adapted into a unique prehensile organ that fires out to grasp prey.
