Care Bears are a species of sapient, bipedal bears found inhabiting the Kingdom of Caring, a realm located in the clouds. They are short in stature, furry, friendly, and adorable little creatures whose goal in life is to guide small children and protect them from various bogeymen and wardrobe monsters.
Evolution[]
Despite being bears, they are believed to be descendants of Guardian Angels.
Physiology[]
The fur of these ursids is highly variable, and it seems as if almost all known Care Bears are a different color. Similar to My Little Ponies, they also possess specialized insignia known as a "tummy symbol" or "belly badge" on their belly (as opposed to the flanks of the ponies), which represents their duty and overall personality.
Despite being of differing creature species, they are considered related to the Care Bear Cousins, which inhabit the nearby Forest of Feelings. Known animals represented amongst the Care Bear Cousins are cat, dog, elephant, lion, giraffe, monkey, sheep, pig, raccoon, cheetah, penguin, rabbit, and tiger.
Relations with others[]
Interestingly, they are accompanied by the Cloud Keeper, a portly human individual that maintains the kingdom as a sort of mechanic and janitor. It is unknown how he came into contact with the Care Bears or came to inhabit the kingdom, though he seems to act fatherly to the Bears at times; it is not known if he had an actual hand in their evolution or creation.
They are also accompanied by the Star and Heart Buddies, whom look out for both the Bears and the Cousins whenever they embark on missions of caring. Birds also inhabit the Forest of Feelings and watch over the Care Bear Cousins when they are there.
Known foes of the Care Bears include Auntie Freeze, Beastly, Dark Heart, Dim & Dumb, Dr. Fright, the Evil Vizier, Frostbite, Grizzle, Nicholas and the Evil Spirit, Professor Coldheart, Rat King, Shreeky, Sir Funnybone, Sour Sam, WingNut, Wizard No Heart, and the Wizard of Wonderland.
Trivia[]
- The ten original Care Bears consisted of Bedtime Bear, Birthday Bear, Cheer Bear, Friend Bear, Funshine Bear, Good Luck Bear, Grumpy Bear, Love-a-lot Bear, Tenderheart Bear, and Wish Bear.
- Some elements of the Care Bears franchise pay homage to the legend of King Arthur. For example, the name of the main characters' residence, Care-a-lot, is a play on King Arthur's legendary Camelot castle. The Care Bear Family sits around a heart-shaped table, similar to the Round Table used by Arthur and his knights. In addition, Sir Lancelot's name inspired that of Love-a-lot Bear.
