Beachplug FFRK

Beachplugs are a species of nautilus or ammonite indigenous to the beaches, and presumably the surrounding shallow seas, of Gaia. Specifically they are found around the tropical town of Costa del Sol in the Mt. Corel region, the Gongaga region along the Western Continent's southern regions, and up to the regions surrounding the Gold Saucer amusement park and prison. Those found around the Gold Saucer are sometimes captured for use in the Battle Square challenge found within the Gold Saucer; these found in the Battle Square are seemingly enhanced through unknown methods (likely Mako mutation) to make them more powerful. They are closely related to the Poodlers, which may in fact just be enhanced Beachplugs utilized by the Shinra Corporation.

Carnivores by nature, they are solitary creatures but have no qualms about others being in their territory, indicating a lack of aggression amongst their own kind. Although many are found alone, groups of three at a time are not uncommon. While they will normally bite an opponent, they are more than capable of freezing their foes utilizing Ice magic. Blue magic users are also known to seek the creatures out to manipulate them into teaching them the Enemy Skill, Big Guard, although they do not use this in any known natural setting, indicating that it may in fact have become a vestigial ability. Adventurers needing to fight a cluster of the creatures can find that they are susceptible to both Beta and Aqualung.

Unlike true Nautilus or Ammonites, Beachplugs and their cousins only possess three, greatly elongated and muscled arms. Their bodies emerge from a golden-hued shell, which spirals downwards into a base that supports their crawling on land with a stable platform. This shell is covered in spikes, presumably to fend off their own predators. The body of a Beachplug is green, although their tentacles slowly change to a blue hue the closer it gets to the tip of each tentacle. Their eyes are golden.

Although they are most certainly a predatory species, their source of sustenance in their territory is widely unknown. While Grangalans do appear both within the Mt. Corel and Gongaga regions, these are mechanical constructs and would not provide the proper nutrition to support the Beachplug's existence. It is also unlikely that they feed exclusively on Humes. Because of this, it is assumed here that they likely feed out at sea. In the same vein, their predators are also unknown, again with Grangalans only seemingly being the only other threat in the areas of influence. This may indicate that they come to shore primarily to avoid their own foes, similar to seals. Those in the Mt. Corel region however might be feasted upon by creatures in this region that possessed powered flight, as these could migrate back and forth without needing to "live" along the beaches themselves. With that in mind, Corel-bound Beachplugs might potentially be fed upon by Needle Kisses, or even Cokatolises, if these are capable of flight.
