The Barbary Lion was a lion population formerly inhabiting the Atlas mountains of Africa. The population was eradicated after over-shooting. About 40 are kept in zoological institutions today, and after the habitat of the Atlas mountains is unstable for the lions, it is unlikely they will return to a population. It is possible to breed a Barbary Lion with a different lion, but the purity is to vanish.
