Ancestor Moths are a species of Moth native to the secluded Ancestor Glades throughout Tamriel. Ancestor moths are attracted to the bark of Canticle trees, and many people use this to attract them. The silk produced by Ancestor moths has powerful properties when woven into clothing. Ancestor moths are used by the so-called "Moth Priests" in the "Ritual of the Ancestor Moth" used to read an Elder Scroll. The moths have a connection to the ancient magic that allows the Moth Priest to safely read them. Ancestor Moths emanate a soft trilling that when amplified connect to the power of the scrolls. This allows the moths themselves to become a conduit for deciphering the scrolls. By having the moths close to the Moth Priest, they can utilize the conduit and share the moth's power.
