The Alert Spider is a creature closely related to the Spike Spider and Wasp Spider, and more distantly related to the Blade Scorpion. Despite being called "spiders" they have much more in common with insects, including possessing six legs, though only the one body segment. Their naming originates from their single, giant eye, making them worthy of sentry duty. Those seeking to eliminate these creatures may either use blow darts or shock them with electricity.

The Alert Spider spends its life above the ground climbing over walls or ceilings. From this high vantage point, it is able to drop down onto unsuspecting prey without drawing attention to itself.

The creature is first encountered by Sphinx during his first journey into Uruk Castle, where a trio of them crawl upon a wall that he must climb, in hopes to reach the chamber which Set (in his Human disguise) is with his minions, transforming Prince Tutankhamen into a mummified corpse.

Although Sphinx does not possess or even know about Capture Beetles by this point in his journey, he is relieved to see that the Abydosian Museum already has one on display upon his arrival.

Trivia[]

  • The Alert Spider is one of only two creatures encountered by both Sphinx and Tutankhamen during the game, the other being the Rat.
  • As the creatures are only ever spotted in the Castle of Uruk, it is unknown how the Abydos Museum ever acquired one. A similar problem exists with the Spitting Toad.
