Acrocanthosaurus was a large carcharodontosaurid from early cretaceous america. Acrocanthosaurus fossils were found in the us states of Maryland, Wyoming, Okalhoma, and Texas. Acrocanthosaurus had high neural spines, which most likely supported muscles on its back, neck, and hips. Acrocanthosaurus was the largest theropod in its area, and most likely an apex predator, preying on ornithopods, ankylosaurs, and sauropods. Acrocantosaurus, along with all other carcharodontosaurids, is an allosauroid theropod, meaning it is related to allosaurids, metriacanthosaurids, and neovenatorids.
